I have had a couple of days to reflect on this really awesome verse from Hebrews:
He is the radiance of the Glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.-Hebrews 1:3
This verse draws on two lessons from the creation story.
We are so blessed to know something of God because we can see the image of God in each other. As Christians, we are given a perfectly clear image of God in Jesus Christ (without any of the difficulties that we have seeing the image of God in each other given our human frailties). We know what mattered to Jesus, how he never wanted anything to come between us and God. We hear how he taught love and see how he lived love. We know he cared about those on the margins.
The second lesson regards the power of words. In the creation story from Genesis, God simply spoke creation into existence, and in Hebrews, the author tells us that the whole universe is upheld by “the word”. I started to reflect on the power of words to shape our own reality, what we say and what we think. With words we can build each other up and fill our hearts with gratitude, and that is a powerful thing! And when my own thoughts and words fail me, I am eternally grateful for God’s powerful and holy Word, which upholds me through everything!!!
