Back to Miss Clara’s prayer. (I was inspired by a sermon at church to post something positive every day on Facebook. At the end of the sermon, Miss Clara’s prayer from War Room was played at church and it just seemed like it would be fun to journal.)
When I thought of the words “Raise ‘em Up”, the first thing that came to mind for me was a wonderful Mother’s Day sermon I heard preached at The Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, KS by Rev. Tom Are. This was many years ago. I was home for the first time with my new son.
He gave a whole sermon on this passage:
I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunece and now I am sure dwells in you as well.
I can’t do the sermon justice, but when Timothy needed encouragement, St. Paul reminded him of the faith of his mother and his grandmother. And I came away from the sermon hoping that my son would always know that I had sincere faith and that this would encourage him throughout his life.
I am willing to bet that most Americans have at least one mother or grandmother or great grandmother with faith in God. I am optimistic that faith dwells in most, and that for some people, the great gift of God simply needs to be fanned into flame.
Praying that God will fan the flame of faith so that everyone knows we have been given spirit not of fear, but power and love and self-control.
This page did not exactly turn out at all like I expected.
