Wide Margins

Lisa Nichols Hickman suggests that we can think of the margins of our Bible as an offering just as Israelites left the edges of their fields for the poor and sojourners. As I reflected on the verse from Leviticus, my margins turned into a something of a conversation.  (And somewhere running through the back of my mind was the thought, “Of course, I just took out my vegetable garden and planted grass seed.”  I just haven’t had time to keep up with it.)

Here’s the prayer that welled up in my heart…

Lord, I do not have a field ready for harvest, so order my life in a way that pleases you. Save me from the tendency to go too hard and do too much.  Keep the margins of my life wide so that I can be responsive to the needs of others, spend time in your Word, and find my rest in you.  Amen.
